About Rights Tech Summit
RightsTech Summit is an annual meeting point for professionals from all corners of the media industries, framed within the New York Media Festival. It’s a space for conferences that analyze the latest trends in the art market, and innovations in management and monetization of rights.
The project is a joint initiative by Digital Media Wire, Inc. and Concurrent Media Strategies, LLC. During two days, through first-level conferences, people expose new strategies to manage, verify and monetize rights over different types of creative content.
The Enumerated Manuscript: Unique IDs, metadata and registries
About the role of private registries
Safe Creative had the pleasure of taking part in one of the panels, “The Enumerated Manuscript”. At this talk, our Product Manager, Mario Pena, highlighted the importance of private registries as systems that empower creators by allowing them to distribute their work more safely.
We also discussed the convenience of registries gathering the first pieces of authorship information efficiently, not just effectively. In other words: This process to create evidence should be quick, scalable, and it should provide quality data for other companies. So that those other projects, such as many of the attendants at the Summit, can showcase and make the best possible use of those works, relying on correct original information about their rights.
We agreed that the essential function of a registry should be focused on legal evidence, rather than collective rights management, which can be a highly specialized area depending on the specific kind of creative work.

One of the main problems concerning this topic which was brought up during the panel concerns the music industry. Identifying the creative origin of a piece of music is precisely one of the biggest and most frequent obstacles when managing rights nowadays. In these cases, having inaccurate information can cause many issues in the long run. Luckily, registries such as Safe Creative can help solve these situations. Through collaboration and quality, interoperable information.
We want to thank all organizers, and give them our congratulations on their initiative and such a successful event. We come home with a very good memory, having learned a lot, and full of new ideas and interesting collaboration possibilities for the future.
